ISTANBUL … CONSTANTINOPOLE

Post available in English and Romanian
Besides Kusadasi I’ve also visited Istanbul in Turkey. It was a flash visit, just two days long, and the main event was the U2 concert, at Ataturk Stadium. It was definitely worth the almost 48 hours with no sleep, and then a full day at work.

MY STAY IN KUSADASI

In Kusadasi we stayed at Asena Hotel. Perfect location, next to Ladies Beach. Good hotel if you don’t want to spend much and stay in a nice area.

Good food, but not very diversified. It’s more of a 2+ stars hotel.

But that’s how things usually go in Turkey, a 4 star hotel is what you should choose if you want to splurge. In the first night they told us that they are overbooked and moved us to a 2 star hotel nearby (it was awful). When we returned next morning, no apologies or refunding, and we didn’t even find in the room the fruit basket they promised for the trouble. Otherwise the hotel pool is nice, but too small.

ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT

The last piece about my trip to Kusadasi is about the boat trip we took. We’ve seen so many hidden beaches and the water was so blue and clear that we could see the bottom even if the water was 10 meters deep.

EPHESUS TRIP

Post available in English and Romanian

In acele vremuri, scenele erau construite in asa fel incat sunetul sa ajunga pana la ultimele locuri din tribuna.

In august, cand am vizitat eu orasul, temperaturile erau extrem de ridicate.

The ancient city of Ephesus was one of the main reasons i choose to visit Kusadasi. Ancient history and civilisation is one of my favourite things to study. In the roman period, Ephesus was for a long time the second largest city of the Roman Empire, and also the second largest city in the world.

The ruins tell all about how advanced the society was in the city, for those times. The town had it all from beautiful villas for the rich, to public toilets and aqueducts that collected water. The Library of Celsus (third in size in the ancient world) is one of the most iconic buildings in Ephesus.

Only one column has remained from The Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. But some of the parts from the Temple of Hadrian are well-preserved.

Also, the Theater has a beautiful view and great acoustic. In those times, they were built so that the spectators could hear from the stands the actors on the stage. (this one is the smaller theater – the main one had 24.000 places)

It’s definitely worth a visit to see Ephesus, but be sure to bring water (it can also be purchased at some stores at the entrance) and a hat or umbrella for sun protection if you are traveling in the summer. In august, the time I’ve visited the city, the temperatures were very high.

KUSADASI, UN VIS DE VARA / KUSADASI, A SUMMER’S DREAM

Post available in English and Romanian
Iau pas cu pas vizita in Turcia.

I’m taking my visit to Turkey step by step. It was the first time I’ve gone out of the country, and also my first plane trip. First stop: Kusadasi. You can find out more about this destination here. It’s not only about sun and sea but also a very historic place. I love to combine relaxation with visiting on my trips, so I try to go for sun and fun, but also for great history.

First stop from Bodrum airport was Lake Bafa, wich is also a natural reservation. The legend says that here, the goddess Selene fell in love with the shepherd Endymion. She asked Zeus to keep the young man asleep. The goddess gave birth to fifty children from her affair with the sleeping man.
