BELLA ITALIA

Post available in English and Romanian

Cand o sa va plictisiti, o plimbare pe malul raului Arno o sa va dezmorteasca. Peisajul arata superb la apus.

My first stay in Italy was about 2 weeks long; I fell in love on the spot. I planned with care all the details: cities to visit and how long we should stay. We didn’t rent a car, we took the plane to Italy and the train in between cities. I’ll write about the hotels in a future post. Until then, let’s begin the trip:

THE BEGINNING: BUCHAREST – PISA

I couldn’t have picked a better place for the start of our trip. During the summer, Pisa is like a breath of fresh air. You’ll spend an entire day admiring the Leaning Tower. Take a deep breath and climb the almost 300 stairs; when you are near the top you can actually feel how inclined the tower is. The tower is located in Piazza dei Miracoli, next to the Duomo, the cemetery and museums. When you get bored, take a walk along the banks of the river Arno . The sunset is amazing.

Daca va aflati in nord estul Italiei, atunci e pacat sa nu vizitati si San Marino. If you are visiting north-eastern Italy, then you shouldn’t miss a trip to San Marino. A state within a state, San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world, and also, the oldest republic in the world. San Marino takes pride in the fact that it’s one of the most richest countries in the world. The three towers: Guaita, Cesta and Montale, are the main attraction. Only the first two can be visited by tourists. The three towers offer spectacular views over Italy and the Adriatic sea.

MY STAY IN NICE, FRANCE

Post available in English and Romanian
Eu am stat 7 zile La Malmaison, in Nisa.

Don’t be scared to travel to the French Riviera, you can always find beautiful, cozy hotels, that come at a very good price. I stayed for 7 days at the beautiful La Malmaison Hotel, in Nice.

The staff was great, spoke good English and was always there to help us with our questions. The rooms were clean, and the breakfast good for a hotel in France. We always got to start our day with a full stomach. The location is very convenient: just a few minutes walk from the beach and the old city. The Train Station is very close, good to know if you travel with a lot of luggage. We also had free internet, and  that is always a nice thing for me.

EPHESUS TRIP

Post available in English and Romanian

In acele vremuri, scenele erau construite in asa fel incat sunetul sa ajunga pana la ultimele locuri din tribuna.

In august, cand am vizitat eu orasul, temperaturile erau extrem de ridicate.

The ancient city of Ephesus was one of the main reasons i choose to visit Kusadasi. Ancient history and civilisation is one of my favourite things to study. In the roman period, Ephesus was for a long time the second largest city of the Roman Empire, and also the second largest city in the world.

The ruins tell all about how advanced the society was in the city, for those times. The town had it all from beautiful villas for the rich, to public toilets and aqueducts that collected water. The Library of Celsus (third in size in the ancient world) is one of the most iconic buildings in Ephesus.

Only one column has remained from The Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. But some of the parts from the Temple of Hadrian are well-preserved.

Also, the Theater has a beautiful view and great acoustic. In those times, they were built so that the spectators could hear from the stands the actors on the stage. (this one is the smaller theater – the main one had 24.000 places)

It’s definitely worth a visit to see Ephesus, but be sure to bring water (it can also be purchased at some stores at the entrance) and a hat or umbrella for sun protection if you are traveling in the summer. In august, the time I’ve visited the city, the temperatures were very high.

DE MADRID AL CIELO

…Or, when over there is better than over here.

“De Madrid al cielo” , is the Spanish way of saying that, after their city, only the Heaven is more beautiful, and only with one condition: to have a „window” in the sky  that overlooks the capital city of Spain, so that you could watch everything that’s happening there.

My love story with Madrid began about three years ago, when I first got there. It felt like home from the first moment. As Romanians, it’s normal for us to adapt quickly over there, they are as talkative as us, we can learn quickly the language, and they have similar habits.

Since then, I’ve returned 7 times to Madrid – I’ve come a long way from the girl who used to say that she’ll never visit the same place twice, I’m a Madrid-junkie now. Sometimes, I miss that place so much that I close my eyes and I imagine that I’m there, on the streets that never sleep.
