RHODES, DAYS 7 & 8

I didn’t write about our 7-th day here, and that’s because we had a very relaxing time at the beach, with fresh fruits and many baths in the sea. It was a perfect goodbye. I enjoyed very much the fact that the locals were friendly and communicative. They would just come up and ask about your day or if you like it here, where are you from, if you like what you saw, how was your day … and so on. Even if they lead a bohemian life, with a daily lunch siesta, I noticed they are very fair. And to prove it here’s a story with a very nice salesman from which we bought our daily dose of fruits on the beach. On our last day, we bought amongst others, a cantaloupe casserole. Until now, all fruits were delicious. But not this time … it tasted horrible so we headed straight to the trash bin. We were not planning on demanding our money back or something like that because it was not that big of a deal. Also, we were so relaxed that nothing else mattered 🙂 But what do you think? The fruit salesman saw us with a full casserole right next to the trash bin and came to ask for details. When we told him what happened he went and got us another casserole with a delicious content. His reaction was the normal one but considering that in Romania many people only think about stealing even a single penny, I found his reaction really nice.

RHODES, DAY 6

If you’ve read my blog before, then you know I am very passionate about sports. And how could I have missed an ancient sports site in my vacation? Outside the town, you can find Monte Smith (a hill named after a British general) – here you can visit the ancient stadium, a small amphitheater and the temple of Apollo, all of them are included in a natural park, with free entrance. We arrived here with the hop on hop off bus, the station was just 5 minutes away from our hotel. There are two buses (red and yellow), with an hourly schedule. One ride is 15 euros in the morning, or 12 euros by noon. A ticket is available for the day. You can also take this ride in a tourist train for 7 euros for a one-way ticket. We were the only tourists who descended from the bus to visit the site, and for an hour we admired the ancient ruins. The stadium is well preserved, especially the spectator seating. From here, you can continue to visit Rhodes by bus or train, both cover the most important touristic objectives.

RHODES, DAY 3

It’s a shame to come to Rhodes and not explore the phenomenal locations offered by the island. We started with something easy today: a walk on the town walls. The tour starts from the old city, right in next to the Grand Master’s Palace. If you want to explore the city, please wear proper shoes, many of the streets are paved with stones from the sea and sports shoes with a thicker sole are the best choice. The walk on the walls takes about one hour and you can see some beautiful sights. Be careful though, the walls are not surrounded by protection bars, and you should not come near the edge for a daring selfie. The tour is open only between 12 and 15 (2 euros) and its best to take with you a hat and water, these are important weapons in the fight with the sun.

RHODES, DAY 2

There’s no better way to get into the holiday atmosphere than a … lazy day. We spent the entire day on the beach, enjoying the sun and the perfect sea. If you have sensitive legs, then I recommend you to visit the nearest store (pick any, there are so many options) to buy some special shoes. They only cost 7-8 euros but will rid you of the pain caused by the rocky beach. During my first swim here I didn’t enjoy the foot massage I got from the pebbles, so I can say my water shoes were a good investment .

Let the adventure begin! Lately, I was feeling like time stands still and my vacation will never come. This year I chose Rhodes, in Greece, where the present meets the past in a perfect harmony. It was an inspired choice because even if we like to spend a few hours at the beach, we also love to explore new places.

NOW YOU SEA ME

La finalul celei mai calduroase zile de pana acum in 2016, va fac pofta de o tura la mare cu pozele astea: It’s only mid-April but the heat wave is already here. Watch out! In the summer we’ll reach the next level: oven temperatures in Bucharest. But I’m not complaining. Honestly! Even if my blog’s name is “In the Sad Town”, I’m very much optimistic and cheerful. The city is the only sad character in this story. So … let’s take a trip outside the city, for just a moment.
