STEP INTO HISTORY

During my first days in Rhodes I didn’t know where to look first; to my left and my right, wonders of the ancient world, buildings that looked frozen in time and made me feel like a time – traveler. The gorgeous blue sea was always in the picture, and above I could always see an incredible sky because it barely rains during the summer in Rhodes (to be more accurate, it never rains). And yes, even when you look down you will be amazed. With each step, there are beautiful mosaics, crafted out of sea stones, which not only are a sight for the eyes, they also offer a foot massage. Don’t wear heels or light shoes, you’ll need a thicker sole to walk the old streets.

As you can see, no mosaic looks like the others, and I only managed to capture a few of them.

Nu toate mozaicurile sunt expuse la orice pas, pe cele mai pretioase le veti vedea expuse in Muzeul de Arheologie si in Palatul Marelui Maestru. Not all mosaics are in plain sight, the most valuable ones are exposed in the Archaeology Museum and at the Grand Master’s Palace.

  1. Your selection of mosaics is wonderful; I particularly like that the form of the stones has been left rather than made flat as in many other mosaics. It adds another dimension, both literally and aesthetically. Thank you for sharing them with us.
